Honey Production

Encyclobeedia | Production | Uses | FAQ's

RECEIVING

The raw honey from Association members is shipped to the plant in 55-gallon steel drums, where it is weighed and moved to storage. This particular receiving dock can accommodate 10 semi-trailer trucks similar to the one about to dock. Containers, tank trucks, vans and pickup trucks are also unloaded here.

DUMPING

The first step in processing honey is to melt it for easier handling. With 22 stainless steel melting tanks, the Association's 400,000-pound daily capacity and large inventory allow us to practice sophisticated blending techniques and assure consistent flavor and appearance.

LABORATORY

Sioux Honey Association maintains the finest, most modern laboratory in the industry. Quality control is a continuous process as honey samples are carefully tested and checked. Research is ongoing in an effort to improve product quality and to develop new uses for honey.

PROCESSING

Modern processing facilities include flash heating and cooling units, filter presses and pumps that deliver the finished product to the packing line. Also, Spun honey spread mixing tanks and seed grinders are exclusive developments of Sioux Honey's research staff.

FILLING CAPACITY

Lines include bottle cleaning, filling, capping, front and back labeling and packing. All finished goods are delivered to storage areas by a system of conveyors.

LABELING

Skilled professionals keep constant watch over this high-speed front and back labeler to make certain that accurate names and sizes match up with every product we turn out.

HIGH-SPEED LINE

This is a completely automated, high-speed packing line. Each line of this type will produce up to 8,000 cases of finished product in eight hours. Still, we are constantly upgrading our automated production equipment and maintaining stringent sanitary conditions.

WAREHOUSING

Vast warehouses with computer controlled inventory facilitate quick filling and shipment of label orders for all products packed by the Sioux Honey Association. Warehouses are strategically located, which guarantees easy delivery to customers anywhere in the United States - and throughout the world.
